About the artist.

Elizabeth Putnam is a natural history artist that specializes in insect art and taxidermy. Her artistic practice focuses on using natural specimens to create sculptures that captivate and enchant by highlighting natural design.

Elizabeth’s fascination of the natural world began early in life. Counting tadpoles, making plaster casts of wildlife tracks, and learning bird calls as a child has led to a deep reverence for life that permeates her practice and work. Although she pursued a career in the sciences, it wasn’t her calling. She is able to combine her scientific background into her creative process; to search for the unexpected, offer educational experiences, and create art that is instrumental to conservation.

Her life and art were challenged by a breast cancer diagnosis at the age of 35. She perseveres through the act of creation by her unwavering gratitude for life. Defiant to survive and hopes that by sharing her story, she can help others facing similar circumstances.
